Widening

By Aurel · Sunday Letter of · 1 min read

Friends,

Halfway through May. The year is more than a third over and we don't know what to do with that information.

Widening is what the practice asks of us when we've settled. Not to leave where we are, but to make the room bigger. To include what we usually leave out. The neighbour we don't know. The country we don't follow. The part of ourselves we don't visit.

Eight minutes tonight. 8 PM your local time. Start with your city. Then widen. Let the circle grow until it includes someone you'd rather not think about. Then sit with them for a minute.

Come as you are. Even reluctant. Even small. Even tired of widening.

See you later, in the silence.

Dedication: May the circle be wide enough today for someone who wouldn't have expected it.
